Back at the apartment, we watched the 9pm news, and my inaugural speech had made the news. It was followed by a debate as to why things were so bad in the old building, a few white-haired old MPs lambasting the archaic system.

Bi-partisan politics

In the morning I headed to 147 Southwark, finding the place busy, Tisky busy, but there was a tea and coffee table now, as well as biscuits, and Tisky now had a secretary with a computer and a printer.

On the wall were now numerous posters advertising political meetings, groups to join, as well as a few lobbyists’ posters. I even found two whips visiting.

Those new MPs in the common room all greeted me warmly.

‘Tisky, are the children behaving well?’ I asked.

‘They’re cooperating with each other, rarely seen in politics, but it won’t last.’

I spoke to several new MPs before my building manager turned up, and he showed me the café. It was large enough, and we would install cameras for security. We’d also have bullet-proof glass, and the plastic covering that prevented shattering.

He had a man in mind to run it, and that man would recruit the staff and get the place started. My charity would own and operate everything, pay the wages, and my warehouse would supply a few of the items for this place.

Calling Russel in Leicester, he had spoken with the estate agents we used in London, and new rental contracts were being drawn up, a modest rent to be collected since people shared, a lower figure than we could get but not so low that the taxman would jump on us.

With that contract would come a computer and printer supplied by my charity, something for the taxman to jump up and down about. But it was not a gift, it was a loan.
